Q: Does your JL dual battery kit will work with the new 2021 JL 392? I am very interested in this as I have your kits in my 2014 JKU and my 2020 JTR.

Asked by: Dirk Holland - 1/19/2022
A: We do not currently offer a kit for the 392 equipped Wrangler or Gladiator. While it is on a short list of vehicles we are considering, we don't have any sort of timeline at all. After we evaluate what kind of space is available, and we decide to begin development, we'll open a waiting list for the kit. Keep an eye on our social media for future announcements that may include that waiting list!

Q: I have the genesis system in my 2019 wrangler rubicon unlimited 3.6L. Need to replace the batteries as they have died. However, Odyssey no longer makes the 25-PC 1400 in the extreme series. Their next option in the extreme series is 10.9 inches versus my existing batteries at 9.5 inches. Thoughts on how to address this? Is there someone you recommend that makes a better battery (for my existing set up) than Odyssey?

Asked by: David Hansen - 1/18/2022
A: The kit requires two BCI Group 25 batteries. Anything else is at your own risk and is not recommended. Odyssey offers a Group 25 battery in their Performance Series, the ODP-AGM25. We also offer the Full River FT750-25, which has similar specifications to the old Odyssey 25-PC1400.

Q: Can I add a solar pannel to this battery to constantly keep this charged or will that conflict witrh the deep cycle?

Asked by: Clarity - 1/3/2022
A: Most people want to use solar panels to be able to run their accessories for as long as possible with the engine off. You can connect the solar charge controller directly to our power and ground bus bars. The solar charge will go into your aux battery first to replace the power used by your accessories. As long as the panel is big enough to keep up with the demand and charge up the battery, then our smart isolator will link them together, and the solar will flow over to the cranking battery as well.

Check out the below video for more information on solar:

Asked by: Michael Spadaro - 12/19/2021
A: There is nothing in this kit that affects any electronics or sensors on the Jeep. However, since the IBS is connected to the factory ground, the voltage displayed on the dash would be that of the accessory battery rather than the cranking battery.

Q: Hello! I looked in the “Questions about this item?” section and did not see this question asked? I have a 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with the 3.6 liter eTorque Pentastar V-6. If I had to jump start someone who had a dead battery, which battery would I use to jump start them? Does it matter which one is used? Same thing as well if I had to be jump started due to a dead battery. How would I tell which one is the dead battery? Last, sometimes my daughter drives my Jeep. If she had to jump start someone, or be jump started herself because one or both of that batteries died in the Jeep, if the jumper cables red cable got hooked up to the positive post on the one battery and the black cable got hooked up to the negative post of the other battery, would anything bad happen to either vehicle either before or during the vehicles being started during the jump start? Thank you for your time and for answering my questions. God bless, and never forget that Jesus loves you! Jay

Q: Two questions. First, I have a 2021 JL Rubicon 3.6. Will this kit fit the Rubicon. I thought I saw somewhere that it won’t fit on the Rubicon because of the hood. Second, I have the 4 factory auxiliary switches. Is there a way to make the switches work off the auxiliary battery and not the crank battery?

Asked by: Mark - 11/15/2021
A: Our kit will fit the JL Rubicon just fine. In fact, the Jeep on our homepage is our own JL Rubicon and it has had our system in it for 3 years now without issue.

Asked by: Nick - 11/12/2021

Q: I purchased one of these a couple years ago for my 2019 Jeep Wrangler. It came with the red top, but when I went to get another one I noticed you had switched over to the full throttle battery. So I ordered the FT battery to replace one of my old red tops. Went to put it in, and it doesn’t fit. The red top fits fairly snug at about 227mm, and the FT battery is around 334mm. How can we make this work since y’all already sold me the battery. Thanks.

Asked by: Joshua Ellis - 11/6/2021
A: As stated in the product description:

"IMPORTANT NOTE: This battery is not compatible with any battery kits purchased prior to September 2020. For more information, please check out our blog post on the subject: https://www.genesisoffroad.com/newtraydesigns"

To summarize, customers with kits purchased before 9/2020 can continue to use the Odyssey battery, or replace the tray with the updated design.

Q: My 2020 JLU has auto start/stop. I understand the small battery under the main battery controls that feature. Does my main battery charge that small battery or the alternator? Does that small battery need to stay there when I install the Genesis dual battery system? If so, how will it be charged?

Asked by: Tim - 11/1/2021
A: Installation of the Genesis kit involves the removal of the small battery. It is not used any longer, so none of the problems associated with that battery remain.

A: You'll need to use the Tazer to program the Stop/Start, not clear engine codes.

Start/Stop Kill: Set the Start/Stop system as you wish, enabled/disabled, and the Tazer JL will set it that way then next time you start the vehicle.

Q: Will the Optima yellowtop group 75/25 battery fit in the JL dual battery frame?

Asked by: Kim Tillano - 8/13/2021
A: The Optima 75/25 will physically fit within the battery tray. We have had reports from customers stating the battery is too short to contact the lid, and ends up being a little loose when installed. That can be remedied by using some sort of spacer to either lift the battery to contact the lid, or putting something between the lid and battery to make for a tight fit.

Q: How do I get more room to add 2 or 4 gauge wires to the post? Is there an add on?

Asked by: Don Wagner - 8/12/2021
A: If you're referring to the center stud on the busbar, it could be replaced with a longer bolt. If you remove the busbar from the lid, there is a small cover underneath that can be removed to replace the bolt. Just be sure to use a stainless bolt to replace it. Otherwise, you'd need to install an additional busbar or distribution block and wire it to the existing busbar.

Q: I have a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with the 3.6L etorque. I have searched and seen where you mention that the dual battery system will work on this platform, however I am still unclear of how that will work. Will the second battery in the Genesis dual battery system actually replace the 48v etorque battery similar to the way it replaces the small battery in the non-etorque motor? Or will it just add an additional aux battery to the mix? Thanks so much for your help, I just can't find anyone out there with details on the etorque version.

Asked by: Jared - 7/27/2021
A: This kit has nothing to do with the 48V eTorque system. It will add a second battery to the 12V system to allow you additional capacity and backup power the same as with any other version of the JL.

Q: Are you developing a dual battery kit for the Wrangler 392? I think this jeep will revolutionize overloading in the US

Asked by: Ward - 7/18/2021
A: Since the 392 Wrangler and Gladiator are entirely different from their previous gas-powered brothers, it will require a completely new design rather than just updating an existing one like we introduced for the 2nd Gen Tacoma. While it is definitely on the short list of new applications, I don't have a release date yet. However, we always introduce a "Waiting List" when we are in the process of designing something new. Be sure to follow our Facebook/Instagram to be the first to know when the waiting list is opened up.

Q: I have been having trouble with my ess system, From what I have read online most problems have to do with the small auxiliary battery. So if I understand correctly, this system eliminates the small auxiliary battery, is that true? Will installing your dual battery system void my warranty? Thank you, Larry

Asked by: Larry - 6/21/2021
A: This system does eliminate the small auxiliary battery. Our system should not void any warranty, but some dealers try to blame it for all kinds of problems it doesn't cause. The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act forces the dealer to prove the modification caused the failure. Proper installation of our system cannot cause any failure that the factory battery would.

Asked by: Richard Waeltermann - 5/25/2021

Asked by: brandon farrow - 5/13/2021

Q: I'm very interested in the Dual Battery Kit for my 2020 Jeep Wrangler Sahara JLU with the 3.6L eTorque and Auto Start/Stop. It is all stock. (1) Can I assume there is no fit problem with the Sahara hood as I think the hood is the same as the Sport? (2) Can I also assume the auto start/stop feature will still function? Thanks for your clarification(s)! Regards, ......... Rod

Asked by: Rod - 4/29/2021
A: There is no interference with any factory hood that is available on the JL Wrangler. Stop/Start functionality is discussed in more than one Q&A on this item, but to reiterate:
The ESS system looks for a voltage difference between the main battery and the small auxilliary battery to determine whether the Start/Stop system is functioning correctly. Since our system does away with the auxilliary battery, that voltage difference doesn't exist. So, after 6 ESS events, the feature is disabled and will show a warning to service the stop/start system. This is of course a redundant warning since it is predictable and explained by the elimination of the small auxilliary battery. That cycle resets each time the vehicle is turned off and back on. The minimal drain from the few seconds spent at a stoplight is quickly replaced by the alternator while driving.

Q: Hey there. Have a 2019 JLU Rubicon with the AMFIB snorkel. Want to add your system to it. On your site under questions, it says it works together but is a tight fit. However, I've been told it actually won't work with a Rubicon stock hood due to it's shape. Can you tell me if this will work for me?

Asked by: Mav - 4/12/2021
A: While it is a tight fit with the standard JL hood, there is reduced space under the hood on a Rubicon due to the shape of the hood. We have had no reports of successful installation on Jeeps with a non-standard hood. The Rubicon hood would be considered non-standard in this situation since it is not standard on all trim levels of the Wrangler. While it may fit with some trimming and adjustment, we cannot verify that as of now.

Q: Will this kit work with lithium batteries?

Asked by: Mike - 3/13/2021
A: This system only passes voltage through a solenoid. It does not operate differently based on the chemistry of the batteries involved. However, lithium batteries should not be mixed with other types of batteries, and by all accounts they do not do well with the high under-hood temperatures.

Q: I have the dual battery in my JL Jeep, a great product. I will be upgrading to the Diesel JL. Are you working on a dual batter for that?

Asked by: Greg Sandoval - 3/3/2021
A: Developing a new application is an extremely expensive and involved process. It can take months of R&D, and application selection is based very much on demand (or potential demand). Since the diesel Wrangler and Gladiator are entirely different than their gas-powered brothers, they'll require a completely new design rather than just updating an existing one like we just finished for the 2nd Gen Tacoma. With so few diesels on the road right now, there just isn't the demand we usually like to see for designing a new product. While it is definitely on the short list of new applications, it doesn't look like something that is going to be released in the near future. However, we always introduce a "Waiting List" when we are in the process of designing something new. Be sure to check back in a few months or follow our Facebook/Instagram to be the first to know when the waiting list is opened up.

Q: U said the 75/25 yellow top would need some material removed from the lid. Is that the top of battery or the top of the kit? Also Is it much work to remove the material, A file? grinder? cut off wheel? cutting torch? I have a 2019 jeep Rubicon 3.6, and I'm talking about the 75/25 optima yellow top battery.

Asked by: Rob - 2/7/2021
A: The lid referred to is the metal part that holds the batteries down. Any of the tools listed would be suitable to remove material, so once you get the batteries installed and the lid aligned you can choose the one that suits you best. Since we recommend using a specific battery size for our kit, we don't provide detailed instructions for modification to fit other batteries.

Q: Would it make sense to do a red top for the main cranking battery, and a yellow top for the secondary battery that drives accessories (Optima)?

Asked by: Chris Byrne - 2/3/2021
A: The Yellow Top 75/25 will not fit without removing some of the material on the lid. The battery posts are set more toward the center of the battery than standard Group 25 batteries.

Q: If I want to run a roughly 2000 watt amplifier for a subwoofer would this system be able to support that?

Asked by: Perry - 12/31/2020
A: Your sound system performance will depend mainly on your alternator output and any capacitors you're using. Our system is designed mainly to increases battery capacity, so there would be minimal improvement over the factory setup when talking about running a sound system. The main benefit there would be the added improvement from using AGM deep cycle batteries in place of the factory battery.

Asked by: Will Stuller - 11/15/2020
A: Depending on the state of the cranking battery, the solenoid draws up to 200mA while engaged (batteries connected). After either of the batteries reaches 12.7V and the batteries separate, that consumption drops to around 3mA.

Q: Can you use optima batteries ?

Asked by: Blackey - 10/25/2020

Q: I have an Spod already in my Jk. Is there any issue hooking this to the Genesis which is currently being installed at an offroad shop?

Asked by: Lenny M Libbey - 10/8/2020
A: The sPOD source unit should be connected directly to our power and ground bus bars. For the best connection, we recommend using a larger ring terminal on the positive lead so that it can be connected to the large center stud on the power bus bar. The sPOD's negative lead should fit the center stud on the negative bus bar.

Q: Jeep was sitting for a few weeks and something ran the batteries down to 0 (will have to figure out what the cause is) until I can figure out what the problem is I plan on using a trickle charger for extended periods of non-use, do I need to connect to the cranking, aux, or one post on each to charge them?

Asked by: Greg - 9/30/2020
A: You can connect a charger to your factory positive wire on the cranking battery and the factory negative wire on the aux battery. This way the trickle charger works just like your alternator - it will charge the cranking battery first for a couple minutes, then the smart isolator links the batteries together to charge the aux battery as well.

Q: i want to buy the dual battery setup for my 2020 jeep gladiator.... i would like to know if the auto start stop function of the gladiator will still be working? when engine is stopped at a light will my stuff still work until the engine turns back on? thanks

Asked by: frank - 8/28/2020
A: Because of the logic programmed into the start/stop system, it will stop functioning after 6 cycles. This means the engine will not turn off at a stop following the 6th event, and until the engine is cycled manually again. Until that time, everything will work as it always has, with everything staying on during an ESS event. This only happens on the 3.6L engine.

Q: Have they fixed the issue of start stop not working after 6 stops or is that still a problem.

Asked by: Robert Lamorte - 8/6/2020
A: Due to programming in the Jeep's software, the ESS stops after 6 stop/start events with our system installed. Evidence on forums, Facebook groups, and in-person conversation suggests that most people don't like the ESS feature on the JL and the majority of people either turn it off regularly or use a programmer to permanently disable it. At this point in time, neither Jeep or Genesis Offroad considers the 6-event limitation as an issue that needs to be solved. We plan to post a video on our Youtube channel with more details in the near future.

Q: I have a 2020 JLU 2.0 Rubicon, Will installing your system have any effect on the factory warranty?

Asked by: Steve - 8/2/2020
A: Technically, any modification to your vehicle has the potential to void the factory warranty. This would be a better question to pose to your favorite dealership, as they make the final decision on what is and is not covered under warranty. Our system makes no modification to any factory warrantable item (i.e. the battery), so in our opinion it should not affect any warranty concerns. In addition, we have numerous new Jeep dealerships that install our kits on brand new vehicles.

Asked by: Fred - 7/27/2020
A: This kit will work with the Cascadia system.

Asked by: Ron Huffman - 4/30/2020
A: The ESS will continue working up to 6 times per startup. After that, the ESS stops functioning and an error message appears on the dash. When the Jeep is turned off and back on, the count starts over. During a stop/start event, the electronics (headlights, radio, fans, etc) will run off of both batteries, assuming they are connected at the time. Otherwise, they will run from the main battery.

Q: Hello, I am looking into getting this setup for my JL. I have the aux upgrade with my jeep that comes with the 4 aux buttons built in. The main purpose for the dual batteries is to run my dometic fridge and some aux lights. Right now I just plug the dometic into the back 12v plug. But I am wondering if, once I get this setup, I will also have to pay to get a kit to re-wire the back 12v into the aux battery or if that back plug already runs direct to the aux. Thanks!

Asked by: Kaela - 3/17/2020
A: All of the factory circuits, including the factory 12v outlets and the 4 aux switches on the dash, are powered through the fuse box, which gets its power directly from the cranking battery all the time. This means you can still drain your cranking battery by leaving the radio on too long, or running a fridge from the 12v outlet. Any aftermarket accessories should be powered from the power & ground bus bars on our kit so that they will run from the second battery and not drain your cranking battery. We recommend using a dedicated 12v outlet that is wired to our bus bars to power your fridge. Please click on the 'Power Outlets' category for more details on that!

Q: With the dual battery kit, can I use one starter batter and have the second battery be a deep cycle or lithium ion battery?

Asked by: Dom - 3/8/2020
A: You can use a starting battery and a deep cycle, but they must be the same battery type, meaning either both lead acid, or both AGM. You should not mix battery types, such as a lead acid with an AGM or a lithium, because they charge differently, so mixing them will lead to reducing the lifespan of both of them.

Asked by: eddy l bates - 2/27/2020
A: We havent had a chance to evaluate the diesel version of the JL yet, but based on the photos we've seen this kit isn't going to be a direct fit

Q: If both batteries get drained, can you use a NOCO boost portable jump starter to get your vehicle up and running again?

Asked by: JZ - 2/22/2020
A: Yes, simply connect it to the factory positive wire on the cranking battery and the factory negative wire on the aux battery to jump start the vehicle.

Q: Hi there. I am located in Sydney Australia. I understand that you might not be able to ship batteries across to me but can you ship the frame and associated hardware (cables etc?).

Asked by: Andre - 2/16/2020
A: International shipping is definitely an option, and you're correct about the batteries. Cable can be purchased by the foot if necessary, and lugs are available as well. Just be aware that we currently do not have a kit for the right hand drive JL, but we do have one for the right hand drive JK.

Q: Does the 2018-2020 Jeep Wrangler JL Dual Battery Kit work with the 2.0L mild hybrid system? Not sure if the wiring to the battery is the same since the hybrid battery system. Thanks for your help!

Asked by: Daniel Shaffer - 2/10/2020
A: Yes, this kit is completely compatible with the 2.0L Turbo JL. The installation is actually a little bit easier because the 2.0 does not have the small second battery under the fuse box. You'll follow the installation instructions, and just skip the part related to that small second battery.

Q: Does your dual battery kit compatible with the Rugged Ridge new snorkel system for Jeep Wrangler JL? Thanks

Asked by: Rich - 1/27/2020
A: Feedback from customers tend to say yes it does fit, with care being given to how you route your accessory wires. We haven't had one in the shop yet, so we can't confirm for sure whether this style snorkel fits or not.

Q: Will this JLU kit work in a 2020 Gladiator?

Asked by: Keith Bell - 1/24/2020
A: While this kit will fit the Gladiator, we recommend purchasing the below part number instead to keep things clear for both of us

Q: Do optima batteries work for the jeep JLUR model?

Asked by: Mike - 1/21/2020
A: Yes, you can use a Red Top 25 (part number 9025-160) or the Red Top 75/25 (part number 9022-091) and a Yellow Top 75/25 (part number 9042-218) or two of the Yellow Tops. The caveat with Optima is the small raised vents on top. You can put a spacer on top of that battery so that our lid will sit level. We recommend Odyssey batteries due to their superior capacity and CCA.

Q: What is the installation time for this system?

Asked by: Craig N - 1/1/2020
A: Depending on what setup you are replacing, this can take 2-3 hours for installation. The low end would be a Jeep with no accessories connected, in factory condition. Time increases depending on what is hooked up and the configuration it currently has (i.e. winch, lights, sPod, etc)
