Q: I have a high output Mechman alternator. Any concerns using this setup with an HO alternator?

Asked by: Mbdb72 - 9/2/2020
A: This isolator is rated for 200A continuous with up to 750A for 10 seconds. You'd have to check with the alternator manufacturer to see the actual output curve. Most alternators don't output their maximum voltage except under high RPM.

Q: I have a 2017 jeep JK, it has an aftermarket air intake, large diameter K and N. Well this pose any issue with the installation?

Asked by: RICO Gross - 8/26/2020
A: The JK kit doesn't encroach any into the airbox footprint, so as long as the aftermarket intake doesn't increase the size of that footprint there should be no issue

Q: Does this system work with red top optima 34R batteries? The current set up on my jeep only takes 34R's but it looks like these are 34's so I just want to know if I can still use what I already have and just buy an extra battery. Thanks!

Asked by: Chris Hartman - 8/25/2020
A: No, the 34R is the stock replacement, but since we have to rotate the batteries, the 34R will have the positive post by the fender, so the factory positive cable will not reach that far. The kit requires 2 regular Group 34 batteries so that the posts will line up with the factory wires properly.

Q: any discount codes?

Asked by: adam scheu - 8/2/2020
A: Historically, we run only one sale per year on Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend. Once in a while we offer a scratch and dent or display model, but it can be months between opportunities like that. And with the absence of events this season, there isn't much opportunity for display. Batteries do ship free, but those never go on sale.

Q: Will this work on my 2015 JKRU with Costco Interstate Batteries Group Size 34 item number 8850241? I ask because the batteries look like they don't have a flat top online and could be a challenge when installing the top plate. Thanks!

Asked by: Mike - 7/29/2020
A: We are not aware of any issues with any Group 34 battery as far as fitment is concerned. As long as the lid is tightly secured, the batteries will not move around. The tray is designed specifically for two BCI Group 34 batteries, so due to the physical size they will not be loose fitting regardless of the topography of the top.

Q: With this setup, where do you connect the power to a winch?

Asked by: Brian Carter - 6/30/2020
A: Your winch or other high-amp accessories go onto the large center post on the bus bars, and all your other accessories go directly to the smaller screw terminals on the bus bars.

Asked by: Larry Hartman - 6/24/2020
A: The JK tray will hold any two BCI Group 34 batteries. We recommend Odyssey, but we've see Optima, Northstar, FullRiver, Duralast, and many more install just fine.

Q: Hi, what's the difference between the base model JKDBK2A , the extension model JKDBK2A and the RHD model? Which models fit the 2018 JK? Does the 12 volt power outlet work with the JK? Thank you Thanks

Asked by: Mark - 5/22/2020
A: 2007-2011 require an extension for the evap solenoid wiring harness. 2012-2018 do not require this extension.

RHD stands for righthand drive. Jeeps with this setup are typically found in the UK, Australia, Japan, etc.

This kit fits your Jeep, just select the proper year group (2012-2018).

The 12V power outlet does work with the JK.

Q: I have 2 question: 1. I have the stock jeep battery and a sealed deep cycle gel battery (100ah, 12v, 80A). I know the recommendation is to have two of the same battery but can I use these two until I need to replace? This will keep the initial costs down for me. 2. I have 2 x 100W 3M solar panels bonded to my RTT with a 20A Renogy MPPT controller. How do you recommend this get connected into the system? The original setup was to charge the separate marine battery (when not driving) with the solar panels. I'm not sure how this is hooked into the Genesis system or if I should just continue to run the two systems separately. I have a 80A 12V relay for switching to the alternator from the original setup.

Asked by: Shaun PM Greffard - 4/22/2020
A: 1. The stock Jeep battery (Group 34R) has the terminals opposite from the Group 34 that our system requires. Further, mixing battery types is strongly discouraged by Genesis Offroad, as it shortens the life of both batteries and can have unwanted consequences.

2. You can connect the solar charge controller directly to our power and ground bus bars. The solar charge will go into your aux battery first to replace the power used by your accessories. As long as the panel is big enough to keep up with the demand and charge up the battery, then our smart isolator will link them together, and the solar will flow over to the cranking battery as well.

Q: I know the batteries need to be the same size (group 34), but do they need to be the same battery? For example, I’d like to use optima red top for the crank and yellow top for the aux (deep cycle for appliances). Is this kit able to handle this without problems?

Asked by: Edwin - 4/20/2020
A: You can absolutely run the system with one red and one yellow top Optima. As long as they are the same type of battery, they will charge and operate as expected.

Answer provided by: Mike Heverly (4/20/2020)

Q: Is there any danger to the JK’s electrical system or computer such as low voltage, a change in current, or something else due to the use of a non-stock-sized battery? Also, is there any danger of premature wear to the stock alternator if it’s working to charge two batteries rather than one?

Asked by: Cole - 4/7/2020
A: There have been no reports of any risk to the electrical system or damage caused by the use of our dual battery system. The alternator simply supplies the 12V to the batteries; there is no affect on it due to there being two batteries rather than one.

Q: Would I need to upgrade my alternator on my 12jeep jku?

Asked by: Doublediamond_offroad - 4/4/2020
A: Our dual battery kit is designed to work with the factory electrical system with no need for upgrades. Your OEM alternator will continue to function normally, and there it won't be necessary to upgrade the alternator.

Q: Can I run LiFePO4 batteries with your DB system? If yes, what batteries fit?

Asked by: Chuck - 4/1/2020
A: Check out the below link for a discussion on using LiFePo batteries in a car. The short answer from us is no, we do not recommend it. The tray is built around two Group 34 batteries, and anything else will not fit correctly.

Q: I have one Odyssey Batteries 34R-PC1500T will these battery's work with your kit in a 2016 4 door jk ?? Or do i have to buy 2 new different battery's if so what battery's do you sagest?

Asked by: ron - 3/30/2020
A: The 34R will not work with our kit, as the terminals are reversed. While any pair of Group 34 batteries will work, we recommend the Odyssey 34-PC1500

Q: Hello, i'm really interested by the dual battery kit for the JK, i'm having an European version CRD 2013 and i would like to be sure if it's compatible, especially because my model description says 230Amp altenator. Do you have an installation guide and do you ship to France ? Best regards Julien Domart

Asked by: Julien - 3/26/2020
A: This kit is compatible with your Jeep. The installation for the RHD version is very similar to our LHD model, with just a couple differences.

First, you will be trimming off the front part of the battery tray that holds the engine computer, rather than the air box mount as shown in the instructions.

Second, the top lid gets installed 180 degrees backwards, with the lion head logo facing the firewall, so that all of the wires will line up properly.

The only other difference is that you can skip the part relating to the evap solenoid. That’s over on the other side of your engine bay, so you won’t have to do anything with that.

Otherwise the install is the same as shown on our installation video.

We do not currently have written instructions for the RHD Wrangler, but let us know if you need any help by emailing [email protected]

Q: Hi, I live in England and cannot find the standard Odyssey 34-PC1500 battery. However, these are readily available: Odyssey 34/78-PC1500DT (has top SAE and additional side 3/8 receptacles), 34R-PC1500 (reverse terminals), and 34M-PC1500 (marine version that has SAE and additional 3/8 and 5/16 top posts). Will any of these batteries fit without too much complications?

Asked by: Tim - 3/18/2020
A: The 34/78 and the 34M will both fit our battery tray and work with the system. The side terminals will not be accessible, but since they aren't used that isn't an issue.

Q: When using the boost button, is it permanently engaged requiring me to press it again to disengage?

Asked by: Joseph - 2/26/2020
A: Pressing the Boost button connects both batteries together for 1 minute, acting like built-in jumper cables to jump start your engine off your accessory battery.

As long as the combined voltage of the 2 batteries is at least 12.7 volts, you'll be able to start your vehicle instead of being stranded with a dead battery!

The alternator will charge both batteries for 1 minute, then switch back over to automatic mode to reduce the strain on your alternator.

Q: I have an AEV snorkel mounted and all sealed into the air box. Is it possible to remove the battery, fusebox, evap solenoid and then use a dremel with cutting wheel to remove the parts of the battery try that need to come out in situ without having to pull the whole tray (including air box) out?

Asked by: 2015JKU - 2/11/2020
A: If you can create the space to be able to cut the tray out while leaving the airbox mount, then the answer is yes. You'll likely have to trim multiple times since you're going at it from the opposite side, but there is no reason it can't be done this way.

Q: Can I mix and match group 34 batteries? I have an Optima Yellow Top and would prefer to buy an Odyssey for my second and subsequent batteries.

Asked by: Gary - 1/24/2020
A: You can mix Group 34 batteries as long as they are the same type. In your case, since the Yellowtop and the Odyssey are both AGM type batteries, using one of each will be fine. Keep in mind though, the batteries are different heights so the lid won't mount tightly without some sort of spacer or wedge.

Q: can the dual battery kit 131-JKDBK2A be operated with only one main battery for awhile or will there be something damaged? thanks

Asked by: ron krosting - 1/20/2020
A: Yes, you can use the kit with one battery up against the firewall. Just be aware the positive wire for the aux battery will not be connected, so you'll need to wrap that one up with electrical tape for safety. Connect our long ground cable to the negative post on the battery and the other end should connect to your factory ground post clamp, and everything will work just fine.

Q: How long does this take to install?

Asked by: Don A. - 1/15/2020
A: Depending on what setup you are replacing, this can take 2-3 hours for installation. The low end would be a Jeep with no accessories connected, in factory condition. Time increases depending on what is hooked up and the configuration it currently has (i.e. winch, lights, sPod, etc)

Q: Would group 24 batteries work in 2009 JK with stock hood? They are same width and length of group 34 with a height of 8.75"

Asked by: Robert Patterson - 1/6/2020
A: No, that one will not work. That one is about an inch taller than the Group 34. There will not be enough clearance for the hood to close. The Group 34 is already as tall as we can possibly fit in there.
